Obama Announces National Security Team

CHICAGO -- President-elect Obama announced his national security team in a press conference Monday morning. According to C-SPAN:
"President-Elect Barack Obama announced members of his national security team in the Hilton Chicago Continental Ballroom. Senator Hillary Clinton accepted a nomination to be secretary of State. Defense Secretary Gates accepted an invitation to continue in his role. Eric Holder accepted the nomination to be attorney general. Governor Janet Napolitano accepted the nomination to be secretary of Homeland Security. Susan Rice accepted the nomination to be the ambassador to the United Nations." -- C-SPAN.org

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) is giving reactions to the media live on CNN right now. He is raving about the Clinton pick, calling her a "excellent" Senator, and "well qualified to be President of the United States," as justification for her nomination. Overall, Leahy, who is Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, gave a glowing endorsement of all Cabinet picks today. As the senior Senator who oversees nomination proceedings, it seems Obama's nominations will go swiftly through the Senate.
