Obama has said he would be happy for the [Michigan & Florida] delegates to attend the convention providing their participation did not affect the result. "I think even my six-year-old would understand it would not be fair for Senator Clinton to be awarded delegates when there was no campaign," Obama said. Source
No campaign huh? Obama was in Michigan 3 times, and Clinton 4 times, and Edwards 3 times. All three candidates visited the state in April - July 2007. Florida: Clinton 6 visits, Obama 2, and Edward 5. All three candidates also ran national ads that played in both states. Michigan still has a good case for exclusion unless state party leaders do something about the lack of candidates on the ballot. However, in Florida, all three (in fact 8) Democratic candidates were on the ballot, and simply put, Hillary smoked them all by a huge margin. Even in Michigan, Dennis Kucinich, Chris Dodd, and Mike Gravel were on the ballot, and John Edwards was very vocal in advising voters to vote "uncommitted" because write-ins would not be counted. Isn't this a kind of campaigning of its own? Obviously Edwards knew people were going to vote anyway.
At least Florida's votes cannot be ignored. Obama is just crying because he didn't win, and his lead would be jeopardized if Florida was included in the delegate count. Even Obama's six-year-old should be able to understand that, too.
