Maureen Down recently wrote this article, covering the Obama-Clinton rally in Unity, NH.
It's Over, Lady!
Here's the email I sent to her in response.
Maureen,
I find your article, "It's Over, Lady!" fairly offensive. It seems to me that it may have been an effort to report or give commentary on the lingering pro-Hillary sentiment, or the "truth" behind their public unity, but it just comes off as more Hillary bashing. Coming from another woman I find it doubly offensive. The facts are: Hillary Clinton has suspended her campaign, endorsed Obama, and has offered her top donors to him wholesale. If that's not unity, I'm not sure what it. Obama may be the presumptive nominee, but Hillary is still at the top of a political and financial coalition that even Obama's "grassroots" campaign could never rival. In a way he did really steal the nomination from her, and while it would be political suicide for either of them to admit that, it does not make it false. Like it or not, she really did win the popular vote, and the whole Democratic party is eating crow behind closed doors for pounding on the "will of the people" drum until they deafened us all with it. Nancy Pelosi now has the gall to call HRC the "most respected political figure in America" when she was first in line to shove her off the campaign trail as little as three weeks ago, the most obvious back pedal I've ever seen. Why do you think she's doing that? She's doing it to make sure Hillary doesn't challenge the nomination, which is still very much her right to do and force a roll call vote at the Convention. Pelosi knows she crossed the line, and now she has to frost on the sugar to protect Obama. It's the most sickening thing I've seen in a long time -- and again, from another woman. From Pelosi it seems like professional jealousy, from you it it seems like more yellow journalism, just what we need: you cover a "unity" event and still can't resist the urge to throw in a few more catty digs. For what? It's grossly disrespectful of a woman who is a former First Lady and a greatly respected Senator, not to mention a person who has been a champion of the people her entire life.
Thanks,
One of Those Angry Hillary Supporters
