Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is proposing a mileage tax on cars. A GPS chip would be implanted in your car and used to gauge how far you drive, then you get a bill from Uncle Sam.
Absolutely not. I can't even begin to express how many things, on how many levels is wrong with that.
Let's start with the financials. Let's see. I already paid $14,000 for my car. Slap on another $600 a year for insurance. $1200 or more a year for gasoline. And another $300 or so in services a year. I have already paid for the privilege of driving my car, anywhere I want, as far as I want, any time I want. There is no way in hell I am paying a tax on getting to work and the grocery store, or going home to see my disabled mother. And, a GPS chip in my car, so the government knows where I am all the time, easily? I don't think so. Thanks to creepy, invasive Big Brother shit like the Patriot Act, I already have almost no personal guarantees of liberty any more (oh was that the Constitution going in the shredder??)
Do not let this mileage tax get any more daylight.
