The Wall Street Journal reporting on Obama's upcoming economic roll-outs, quoted Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, addressing reporters aboard Air Force One returning from Canada with President Obama saying NAFTA "didn't even come up," in Ottowa. He refers to NAFTA as a "little issue" that has "fallen to the wayside," in light of the bigger concerns of the economy. Steinberg said, "There was not a kind of narrow focus on little issues. It was a very strategic discussion...heavily focused on the economy."
First of all, I call bullshit. The President of the United States goes to Canada to meet with the Prime Minister while global markets are on the brink of disaster, and they didn't discuss NAFTA? Yeah right. Second, NAFTA is a "little issue" now? Very shoddy spin control from an adept politician like Steinberg.
