My Cabinet

I have no idea who Barack Obama is going to tap for Cabinet positions. I'm very interested to see how it pans out. In the meantime, here is who I would pick, if it were today, now:

Secretary of State: Honestly, I would probably ask Condoleeza Rice to stay right where she is. She has been one of the most effective and prolific Secretaries the US has ever seen. And I believe she was coerced by Bush / Cheney over Iraq. She obviously regrets her involvement.

Secretary of the Treasury: Ross Perot. Yes, you heard me.

Secretary of Defense: Gen. Wesley Clark. I'd actually prefer David Petraeus, but I think he likes his current job.

Attorney General: John Edwards

Secretary of the Interior: Fred Krupp, currently president of the Environmental Defense Fund

Secretary of Agriculture: Edward Luttrell, currently Master National Grange of the Order of the Patrons of Husbandry

Secretary of Commerce: Bill Gates. Yes, you heard me.

Secretary of Labor: Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME)

Secretary of Health and Human Services: Prof. Christine Lyman -- one of my professors from college who taught me more about health concerns than any other person. She has been a health advocate and social worker for over 30 years, and has more direct experience with the actual human condition than I have ever met. She is an LCSW and a professor.

Secretary of Education: Valerie Truesdale, currently President The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development: Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL)

Secretary of Transportation: Luther W. Graef, currently President of American Society of Civil Engineers

Secretary of energy: Al Gore. Enough said.

Secretary of Veteran Affairs: Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)

Secretary of Homeland Security: Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT)

Chief of Staff: Ace Smith, former Clinton campaign strategist

EPA Administrator: Peggy Burks, currently Board of Directors, Greenpeace USA.

Director of the Office of Management and Budget: Allan Greenspan, if he would take it.

Director of National Drug Control Policy: I would work to abolish this office. In the meantime, I would appoint the Executive Director of NORML.
